Usually I carry all the gear I describe above, sometimes I rent another camera so it’s easiest to change from a focal to another.

That day there were some big clouds moving fast. When I understood that one of them was going to cover the sun, I hurried to put the model in position and tidying up the props around her. After that I ran to get ready to shoot.

The image consists of two photos mounted in post-production. I used a Sony A7 camera for both, with a Nikon 70-300mm lens for monkey photography and a Tamron 90mm Macro for the capsule photo.

What I bring with me during my trips depends a lot on the destination and on the kind of project I have in mind, and has also changed with the times since I did a lot of experimentation until I found out “my way”.
I made the picture in 2009 June, when I was for a little trip in Maramures county, in northern Romania. When I saw this little girl, she was just swinging in the veranda of their house.

I used a still-life table, a Fatif studio stand with an Hasselblad 500CM on it, and a Leaf Mamiya digital back. Hasselblad 120 macro lens. The light came from Profoto Strobo Flashes. The image was edited with Photoshop CS6
The equipment I used was my Canon 5D mark II with Canon EF 50 mm 1.4 USM lens. Considering that the photo is a self-portrait, I also used a tripod and a wireless trigger.
In photography, I always work on an idea, usually related to the human being. I read a lot on the topic to keep myself informed. I want the final image to be a visual poem, beautiful but disturbing at the same time.
I work in the traditional darkroom and make silver gelatin prints just like old days. Prints are then toned in diluted sepia toner for archival purpose and split-tone-like tonality.
The homogeneous surface reminded me of a brightly intense fabric and I imagined how I can bring those colors and shapes into everyday life and what I can replace it with.
This photograph is one of "Wonderland" series picture. My series “Wonderland” is about feelings when your town becomes too small for you.

I am delighted to be featured as the winner in the Dodho Black and White 2017 Award publication. It is a beautifully designed hard back book and the edit and layout of the work is perfect. It is wonderful to see an extensive edit of ‘till death us do part’ and ‘home & away’ in print.
It’s very funny story. I was on Christmas/New Year’s Eve vacations with my husband. We arrived to Berlin Sofitel Hotel like every year this period. We woke up after first night and there was a fantastic light of morning sun after the night snowing.
I wanted to include a series of portraits showing the wrestlers after the match with all the marks left and blood due to injuries during the match. This particular picture was taken when on tour at the Arena in Queretaro. In the picture is Mexican wrestler Sharlie Rockstar.
I always thought Los Angeles deserved a festival that included emerging and mid-career photographers as well as the world class image-makers we usually see exhibited. Los Angeles is a nexus of the photographic art form.

My approach for carrying my photography gear while traveling the globe is based on versatility. During transportation in flights or on the way to the places I am based, I carry a lot of stuff that I don't carry while I am out there photographing.

I love the big photos! They’re so nice to go through. And I like the feeling of the slightly glossy paper. One thing that I would change, if I’m completely honest, is the font choice and size (I would make it smaller).
