Belgian photographer Alain Schroeder has been working in the industry for over four decades. During his tenure as a sports photographer in the 80s, his shots appeared on more than 500 magazine covers.
My interest in photography began after leaving school and finding employment in a commercial photographic studio in Sydney and where I nurtured a growing interest in black and white imagery while relishing the work of such greats as Andre Kertesz,Walker Evans, Robert Frank and Lee Friedlander
When underwater, many challenges add up. Holding its breath is challenging when you need to focus, check details into the frame, be sure to catch this « perfect » instant. I get so excited when the body conforms to better exist with in this environment I love it so much.
I like high-end backpacks and one of the important things is that it is comfortable to carry and fits on my back. There are days when I don't have to take it off my back for hours.

At the moment, in my backpack I carry a Nikon D90 body, equipped with a Nikon MB-D90 Battery Grip and two batteries for long work days. I also carry the kit lens, an AF-S DX Nikkor 18-105mm f / 3.5-5.6G ED VR, and an AF-S DX Micro Nikkor 40mm f / 2.8G.
I am a very visual person; I have always been. I believe the human form and especially the female form is most fascinating and worth exploring in photography. However, I don`t like to be conventional and I believe that rendering it in a traditional manner in a photo is unsatisfying.
Walking through one of the camps I saw a kind of shack in which there were many people queuing. I approached them and noticed that they were waiting to dispatch what they had been granted in another shack. They had a sort of voucher and were waiting their turn to collect materials; mainly, canvas covers to build or repair their homes.
I probably use every tool imaginable to shape the images. It’s really a variety of techniques that come together that creates the affect I like. I clean up the surfaces very laboriously, and I do a lot of dodging and burning to make more minimalistic and smooth. I also do color shifting. The end product looks a world different than the raw files.
I don’t usually have a recognizable face in my pictures, the faceless or unrecognizable man works as a device to make the viewer relate, someone they can replace with themselves, or someone they can chose to observe from a distance.
The image is taken from a larger series titled Scotland and the Environment, touching on a variety of contemporary issues facing Scotland today, such as plastic pollution, marine conservation, intensive agriculture and woodland protection.
