Located in the starkly beautiful setting of the Black Rock Desert, the Burning Man festival attracts some of the most interesting and extraordinary people, art and activities you are ever likely to find in one place.
Earlier this year I travelled to a sleepy fishing town called Nou on the north coast of Japan to learn about sumo culture and the training it takes to become a champion in Japan’s most notorious martial art.
In the series Whispers, Emmanuelle Bousquet has chosen, this time, for her role to be personified by different characters, emissaries sent to explore a critical period in her life: adolescence.
Fabrizio Romagnoli - My passion for photography began over thirty years ago, I have studied the technical and photographic composition, through film time learning the techniques of developing and printing, up to lead the digital and the photo-editing.
The approach to flower photography that I take is somewhat similar to that of a portrait photographer - for every flower and plant that I photograph, I always try to find its unique look, study its mood and character, and ultimately unlock the hidden beauty of my models.
Last year graduate from the Krakow’s Academy of Fine Arts’ Photography Studio.Laureate and finalist of several contests, including Adobe Design Achievements Awards in New York, Poznan Photo Diploma Award, International Biennale of Landscape Photography, 5th Polish Biennale of Photography “City and People – Dynamics”.
I use photography, and the portrait in particular, as an expressive tool and medium to investigate emotional dynamics. When making a portrait, you are looking at and describing the other but, at the same time, you are looking inside yourself too.
In most of my work I use my toyo 45AII 4”x5” camera along with transparency film. This combination pretty much mirrors my ambivalent approach and work process when producing my work.
At the moment when I took a camera in my hands for the first time I thought that it must be very interesting to create in this field. I felt that a camera can help do a lot, much more than merely document facts.
I try to work very slow with my pictures, trying to get the right light and exposure. I do most of my work in my garden. There i have a pond and also the rest of the backdrops i have built.
