Dna

It was funny, actually; I woke up one morning, about five years ago – I couldn't remember what I had been dreaming, I only knew I had to learn photography, for some reason.
The process of taking photos was always a great pleasure for me. When I'm out shooting, I feel relaxed and I would say it calms me and fills me with energy.
I was born and raised in Poland. I also went to photography schools there and in Czech Republic. I moved to Canada when I was 26 and have lived here ever since. While I lived in Toronto I worked for about 10 years as a commercial photographer specializing in architecture.
I never planned to become a photographer it came naturally. I spent a lot of time participating at dog sports contests. Watching and participating alone was too boring there is always a lot of waiting time.
I can say that I always took photos as often as I was able too. Practicing photography with all your passion all the time is the best way to find your own style.
So my ideal photographic situation would be to shoot on an amazing location a beautiful or interesting subject! Because some places are unbelievable and have a story of their own.
The majority of my photography is done on a smartphone. I enjoy most the processes of observation, framing, composition, and the relationships between photographer/camera/subject.
Either I tell too little and say nothing of interest, or tell too much and still say nothing at all. I’m a struggling artist. I’m riddled with self-doubt and self-deprecation.
In most of my work I use my toyo 45AII 4”x5” camera along with transparency film. This combination pretty much mirrors my ambivalent approach and work process when producing my work.
At the moment when I took a camera in my hands for the first time I thought that it must be very interesting to create in this field. I felt that a camera can help do a lot, much more than merely document facts.
I try to work very slow with my pictures, trying to get the right light and exposure. I do most of my work in my garden. There i have a pond and also the rest of the backdrops i have built.
This shot is one of a series. There are seven photos in this series, so for doing this kind of work in a series, I need to prepare carefully. I had the idea or theme first, then I tried to find a well-fitting location.
I loved taking photos of my son and I thought to myself “ I want to take better photos of him, and maybe I will sign up for a photography class”. I had no idea of where to start, but I knew I needed a basic photography course.
