Kaushik Dolui

Varanasi, most photographed city in India in the northern Indian state of Utter Pradesh, the spiritual capital lies on the left bank of the River Ganga . Since ancient times; the city has been an important centre of Hindu devotion, pilgrimage.
Photographs of this trend create a reality that does not reflect reality, but prompted by subconscious, characteristics, the expression of unconscious fantasies. Something like unnatural, supernatural and mysterious.
We humans are part on nature but man-made artifacts  in vast landscapes may also affects our mind in a different way. All I tried to express how much it attracts us in forms, colors and shapes against a vast mountain landscape of timeless terrain.
I find the void subjects fascinating and strange, as there is no sense of who they are, but an aspect of them like where they were or what they were doing in the past.
Sometimes we want to destroy the real space through our imaginative mind. Tried to replace the concrete form of the image to combination of light and shadows and our physical body becomes transparent against light or shadow.
Images were taken ten years ago during our trek to Dodital Darwa pass trek in Uttarakhand when digital technology has just begun to come in photography. Although the pictures are quite ordinary, but even  today it seems to be something special.
In’ Transparent’ series I try to replace the concrete form of the image to combination of lines, shapes, colour spots by using different combinations of illusions and paradoxical forms of coloured clothes and light passing through it on the river bank that evokes an emotion/connection in the viewer.
Emptiness In summer months, Leh’s clear blue skies, stark landscapes and the deep valleys appear magical. The streets of Leh that used to be filled with visitors in summer now go nearly empty in the mid November.
India is blessed with diverse culture and each region has its own traditional and festivals they celebrate with proud and joy. Gangasagar Mela, spiritual and cultural event is one of such festival of India celebrated mid January every year attracts thousands of pilgrimage from all around the country.
Initially during our travel to Puskar Mela, Rajasthan. I photographed one of my friend's different perspectives by covering him with clothes.Later I sent two/three images with some modifications for salons competition.
