CARL DOGHOUSE | 1st PLACE

carldoghouse.com

Carl Doghouse is a London-based photographer whose work explores the interplay of light, form, and atmosphere, often revealing unexpected narratives in stillness. Known for a refined yet instinctive approach, Carl’s imagery balances technical precision with emotional resonance. His portfolio spans portraiture, still life, and conceptual projects, unified by a deep appreciation for visual storytelling and the craft of image-making. In his portraiture, there is often a subtle undercurrent of unease a tension between subject and setting that draws the viewer deeper into the frame.

Drawing inspiration from both classical composition and contemporary culture, he creates photographs that invite quiet reflection and reward repeated viewing. Each image is conceived not just as a record of a moment, but as an open space for interpretation, offering layers of meaning beyond the first glance

JOÃO COELHO | 2nd PLACE

joaocoelho-photography.com

He was born in Angola, but his family migrated to Portugal due to the upheavals resulting from the country’s independence process. He lived there until about 15 years ago. Returning to Angola to work on public projects for social and institutional development meant living with and working alongside people in very precarious conditions every day. This experience radically transformed him and the way he sees the world.

Gradually, he developed a strong desire to tell these people’s survival stories visually from a humanist and transformative perspective. He wanted to give them the voice and respect they had lost in society. He always sought to evoke emotions and raise awareness that something needs to be done to change the world for the better.
Documentary photography emerged as a tool that allowed him to study the human condition, particularly the resilience of people in the face of life’s fragility and adversity. Although he mostly worked in color at the beginning of his career, he now works almost exclusively in black and white. Black and white allows him to more effectively convey the emotions he wants his audience to experience, making his messages more impactful. Currently, his work focuses almost entirely on projects. This form of expression enables him to explore his themes visually in greater depth and to develop more structured, solid narratives. Ultimately, he aims to provoke reactions and inspire action through his work to achieve some transformative power in society. This is his main goal, both as a photographer and as a person.

JOHN CROWLEY | HONORABLE MENTION

johncrowley.eu

John Crowley is a landscape photographer based on Ireland’s southwest coast, where the convergence of Atlantic waters, ancient mountains, and pristine lakes fuels his minimalist practice. His work transforms the raw power of these landscapes into contemplative visual narratives, using geometric lines, balanced compositions, and subtle rhythms that invite prolonged viewing.

Years of exploration across Ireland’s remote territories shaped his distinctive aesthetic, refining a process that distills complex natural scenes into essential forms. His black-and-white compositions reveal how light carves space, water shapes stone, and horizon lines divide sky from earth—concentrating nature’s grandeur into both documentary records and meditative objects.

His photography has received international recognition through awards including the Black and White Spider Awards, PX3, International Photography Awards, Neutral Density Awards, and Epson Pano Awards, and has been featured in leading publications such as BNW Minimalism Magazine, Black & White Photography Magazine, and Landscape Photography Magazine. Exhibiting internationally through The Holy Art in Madrid and New York, his work continues to explore the intersection of place, memory, and visual poetry.
