I like to take long walks in Chicago, the city in which I live. Even though I’ve walked the same streets many times there are always new things to see.

Deep in the winter, after the water has lost its summer heat, the river that flows through the center of Chicago freezes. Not the whole river, just the top layer which becomes decorated with broken ice.

I live in Chicago, a city known for its skyscrapers. Of the 40 tallest buildings in the city, half have been constructed since the year 2000. These impressive cloud-piercing structures have skins of glass.
I think it has a distinctive design. I really like the cover. The full-page portraits of the featured photographers are unusual and, I think, effective. At the end of the day, what really counts is the content – the work that the magazine presents. In general, I find the content inspiring.

In Chicago, behind the shops and restaurants, there are service alleys. These narrow canyons are lined with dumpsters which are filled each day and emptied each night.
Street photography can be fascinating. I think it's because we are naturally nosy. We want to stare, to absorb the details and imagine the facts. In real time, on the street, we only get a glimpse of passing strangers.
