The āPhotography Appreciation Awardā and āPhotographic Research/Report Awardā to be presented at HIPAās 4th annual awards ceremony.
The Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum International Photography Award Board of Trustees are delighted to announce the recipients of HIPAās special recognition awards for the 4th season of competition (Life in Colour). The recipients will be celebrated at the 4th annual awards ceremony on Monday the 16th of March in Dubai. Brazilian photographer and photojournalist, SebastiĆ£o Salgado, will be presented with the āPhotography Appreciation Awardā for his services and long standing commitment to enhancing the art of photography.
The āPhotography Research/Reportā award is set to be presented to world-renowned American photographer and author, Scott Kelby, for his āThe Digital PhotogĀraphy Book ābook series.
Sebastião Salgado
Brazilian Salgado, began his career as a professional photographer in 1973 in Paris, working with various photo agencies until 1994, when along with his wife, he formed Amazonas images, an organization created exclusively for his work. Salgado has travelled to over 100 countries for his photographic projects. Most of these works, as well as appearing in numerous print publications, have also been presented in various major books.
In 2004, Salgado began the Genesis project, aiming at presenting the unblemished face of nature and humanity.
Genesis consists of a series of landscape and wildlife photographs, as well as photographs of human communities that continue to live in accordance with their ancestral traditions and cultures.
Scott Kelby
Scott Kelby is the Editor, Publisher, and co-founder ofĀ PhotoshopĀ UserĀ magazine and is co-host of the influential weeklyĀ photography talk showĀ āThe Gridā.Ā He is also President of the online training, education, and publishing firm, KelbyOne.
Kelby is an award-winning author of more than 80 books, includingĀ āThe Digital PhotogĀraphy Bookā series āThe Adobe Photoshop Book forĀ Digital Photographersā and āProfessional Portrait Retouching TechĀĀniques for Photographers Using Photoshopā.
Due to the unprecedented popularity of āThe Digital PhotogĀraphy Bookā series, they have been translated into several languages, benefitting generations of photographers around the world, and in-turn making Kelby one of the best-selling authors in the field of photography and one of the most successful in all genres.
Commenting on the announcement of the recipients of the special categories, the Secretary General of HIPA, His Excellency Ali bin Thalith said āWe are delighted to have SebastiĆ£o Salgado and Scott Kelby, two of the photography worldās real heavyweights, as the special awards recipients for this seasonās Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum International Photography Award. Ā These two gentlemen have achieved countless milestones throughout their respective careers and we are delighted to be recognising them on behalf of HIPA, at our 4th Awards Ceremony on the 16th of Marchā.
All winners of the fourth season of the Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum International Photography Award (HIPA) are set to be announced at the 4th annual awards ceremony under the patronage of His Highness Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, the Crown Prince of Dubai on the 16th of March 2015 at the Dubai International Financial Centre (DIFC).
With a grand prize of $120,000 and an overall prize pool of $400,000, the categories for the 4th season of HIPA is āLife in Colourā (which also serves as the main theme), āGeneralā, āFaces (Black & White)ā and āNight Photographyā.
