In the shadow of the war in Ukraine, Transnistria remains an isolated, self-proclaimed republic, unrecognized by any UN member state.

Suspended between Moldova, Russia, and its Soviet past, the region struggles with an uncertain identity. Russian, Moldovan, Romanian, and Ukrainian influences coexist alongside Soviet symbols. This cultural and political ambiguity reinforces a sense of abandonment, leaving Transnistrians as “orphans” of history, dreaming of recognition for a country that officially does not exist.
