The ‘Photography Appreciation Award’ and ‘Photographic Research/Report Award’ to be presented at HIPA’s 4th annual awards ceremony.

The Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum International Photography Award Board of Trustees are delighted to announce the recipients of HIPA’s special recognition awards for the 4th season of competition (Life in Colour). The recipients will be celebrated at the 4th annual awards ceremony on Monday the 16th of March in Dubai. Brazilian photographer and photojournalist, Sebastião Salgado, will be presented with the ‘Photography Appreciation Award’ for his services and long standing commitment to enhancing the art of photography.

The ‘Photography Research/Report’ award is set to be presented to world-renowned American photographer and author, Scott Kelby, for his ‘The Digital Photog­raphy Book ‘book series.

Brazilian Salgado, began his career as a professional photographer in 1973 in Paris, working with various photo agencies until 1994, when along with his wife, he formed Amazonas images, an organization created exclusively for his work. Salgado has travelled to over 100 countries for his photographic projects. Most of these works, as well as appearing in numerous print publications, have also been presented in various major books.

In 2004, Salgado began the Genesis project, aiming at presenting the unblemished face of nature and humanity.

Genesis consists of a series of landscape and wildlife photographs, as well as photographs of human communities that continue to live in accordance with their ancestral traditions and cultures.

Scott Kelby

Scott Kelby is the Editor, Publisher, and co-founder of Photoshop User magazine and is co-host of the influential weekly photography talk show ‘The Grid’. He is also President of the online training, education, and publishing firm, KelbyOne.

Kelby is an award-winning author of more than 80 books, including ‘The Digital Photog­raphy Book’ series ‘The Adobe Photoshop Book for Digital Photographers’ and ‘Professional Portrait Retouching Tech­­niques for Photographers Using Photoshop’.

Due to the unprecedented popularity of ‘The Digital Photog­raphy Book’ series, they have been translated into several languages, benefitting generations of photographers around the world, and in-turn making Kelby one of the best-selling authors in the field of photography and one of the most successful in all genres.

Commenting on the announcement of the recipients of the special categories, the Secretary General of HIPA, His Excellency Ali bin Thalith said “We are delighted to have Sebastião Salgado and Scott Kelby, two of the photography world’s real heavyweights, as the special awards recipients for this season’s Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum International Photography Award.  These two gentlemen have achieved countless milestones throughout their respective careers and we are delighted to be recognising them on behalf of HIPA, at our 4th Awards Ceremony on the 16th of March”.

All winners of the fourth season of the Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum International Photography Award (HIPA) are set to be announced at the 4th annual awards ceremony under the patronage of His Highness Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, the Crown Prince of Dubai on the 16th of March 2015 at the Dubai International Financial Centre (DIFC).

With a grand prize of $120,000 and an overall prize pool of $400,000, the categories for the 4th season of HIPA is ‘Life in Colour’ (which also serves as the main theme), ‘General’, ‘Faces (Black & White)’ and ‘Night Photography’.
