Jose Girl (Zaragoza, 1977), is a Spanish photographer living in Los Angeles since 2010.Very related to the world of rock, she has to date published 3 books of photography on this subject, and has worked with some of the most important musical publications of Spain, Argentina, Mexico and Colombia.

But if there is a genre that impassions the author, it is the portrait, and that is why she has devoted much of her life to photography.”La vida en disparos” is the way Jose Girl looks around, it’s her way of interpreting the world. Based mainly on the portrait, this always unfinished series collects portraits and situations that the photographer has lived through around the world.

Sometimes we find characters that shrink our soul and others with details she finds walking the streets of Los Angeles, a place that greatly inspires her. There is something disturbing in the portraits of Jose Girl. Their gaze (hers and theirs) gives the characters a hidden past. It is the vision of who makes heroes out of the outcasts, stars of the defeated.Hard with spurs, soft with spikes …

Characters on the sidelines. But always with a kind mystery. Hard guys and chicks that produce tenderness. She knows how to show their sweetness hidden under layers of dry earth, brothel sweat, motorcycle grease, cheap gym liniment … And we always want to know more, more about them all. These portraits show the essence of Jose Girl. Her way of understanding photography, of portraying people. The supposed losers, the circus people, the showgirls, the vital outsiders and, yes, of course, the big stars of national rock, but that’s another matter. She doesn’t portray the soul, she portrays the secrets. She captures a detail, a gesture, a look, a pose, an attitude. It is not by chance that she lives in California. When she lived in Zaragoza, so close to the Monegros, of that Las Vegas that few knows how to intuit, her characters seemed to be taken from a movie about the America of the Big Depression, from a road movie, about people with a past to whom the future does not matter. Characters with charisma having nothing to lose which makes them stronger, more courageous, more attractive. Life in shots … The stop for the brave. The hidden world of Jose Girl. [Official Website]
