Yuri Benitez - For me the composition is created by light, the balance of light is the beginning, and the distribution of elements or models come to reveal the lighting scheme.

Self-Portrait: Interview with Yuri Benitez / Dodho Magazine

Can you tell a little about yourself?

I live and work in Mexico City, I have been married with a wonderful and supporting wife for twenty years, and we have a beautiful daughter.
I have been a photographer for 30 years

How did you get interested in photography?

As a hobby when I was a teenager in high school

What inspired you to take your images?

The beauty and mystery of women

Three words that describe your works?

Enigma, Desire, and Beauty

How would you define your general style of photography?

Subject centered, a mixture of fashion, portrait and beauty style

In your opinion, what makes a good nude photograph?

Not revealing the identity of the subject (facial recognition), and a refined taste if genitals are exposed.
A good nude should reflect the beauty of the figure

What do you think makes a memorable project or photograph?

Seeing something usual in a way that surprises you.
When everyday images, persons, places are seen in a completely different light?, angle?,
contrast? time?, and then creates a surprise and opens your imagination.

How do you know you got the shot you wanted?

When the image on my camera or computer screen matches the image in my head. And then I keep exploring, after that, anything else is a bonus.

Your idea of the perfect composition?

For me the composition is created by light, the balance of light is the beginning, and the distribution of elements or models come to reveal the lighting scheme.

What would I find in your camera bag?

35mm full frame digital camera, 70-200 zoom lens, an iPad, and in my trunk, Fresnel light, Beauty dish, 2 meter silver umbrella, spotlight, Styrofoam white bouncers.

What future plans do you have?

Working on locations with my models, maybe old houses, or any place with a history or an untold tale.

Finally, one last question. What opinion do you have of our print edition?

There is nothing compared to the feeling of printed paper in your hands when it comes to a photo image.
Congratulations!, the print quality is excellent, and the editorial design is also top notch. [Official Website] [Print Edition] [Digital Edition]
