There is a difference between what should be and what is. Often we find, in this human condition, an inexorable yearning to escape. To quote Housman “I, a stranger and afraid; in a World I never made”

Each image tells a story, has a longing quality that expresses a condition of being-somewhere-other. When we find ourselves in a set of cause and condition that fills us with existential dread, we find ways to “escape” that cause and condition through a myriad set of thought experiments or imaginative projection.

There is a mix of fear, hope, sadness and indescribable liminality: Beauty that is dark and light becoming. We suspend our current space, and yet it is the anchor that affixes our consciousness to the Realness of Being-in-the-moment. It is like the Beauty we hear in a caged songbird… it gives us a glimpse into transcendence, and yet fills us with bittersweet sorrow mixed with hopeful possibility.

About Barbara Oliveira

Barbara began her life journey in Brazil, where she was born and, though she still maintains strong bonds with her native country, she doesn’t feel as she belongs to just one nation, but, instead, she sees herself more as a citizen of the World.
Spending most of her early years in Portugal, Barbara soon felt compelled to start writing her own story so, at age of 19, she packed her bags and moved to Germany where she completed her degree in Business Management and first found interest in Photography as a way to express herself and as a form of storytelling.

Today, ten years later, when asked about her main source of inspiration, Barbara won’t hesitate before telling you that traveling still is her most valuable resource as it continually opens her mind to the amazing diversity that is sprinkled all over the World, teaching her that Beauty can be found in the most unforeseen places and little things.
