Emerging Ukrainian Photography: Roman Zakrevsky

This is like a story that author wants to tell with the help of things. A story about someone or someone’s life - which was spied by Roman Zakrevsky. A life is like a frame that consists from different kind of stuff. Stuff like light, lines, person, colors, shapes - stuff that works with your eyes and your perception / imagination.

This is like a story that author wants to tell with the help of things. A story about someone or someone’s life – which was spied by Roman Zakrevsky.

A life is like a frame that consists from different kind of stuff. Stuff like light, lines, person, colors, shapes – stuff that works with your eyes and your perception / imagination.Maybe it’s a story about the moment of belief. Belief that someone could understand the creator, and the creator inside can see other creators inside others. Through their acts, works and vision. Or maybe this is a personal story of author’s life that is described by thoughts that was combined in those things in the frame.

What’s interesting, that Roman always tries to frame the moment like it’s out of time and real place. Somewhere, to say truly – nowhere, or somewhere in between. Sometimes like in a dream, or maybe right here and right now. The pictures are made during first decade of 2000s. Mostly in Chernihiv, the home town of the author.

It’s like a story about things that just are. Like everything in our life. Not as they should look like nor someone made them to be like this to show. This is like a game with symbolical meaning of those things that are either obvious or not readable at all. On the other hand, photography is a space that can teach. Through new meanings and associations from those who sees. And who is the creator at this moment?

Roman Zakrevsky started his photo carrier as film photographer, taking part in collective exhibitions in Chernihiv from 2007. He works as freelance photographer now, making projects connected with people, their lives, aimed on discovery of personality through portraits. His photography method is closely related to psychology of personality, which is usually harmed by complexes of uncertainty and fears. [Text: Paul Titov, Fotoafisha.com]
