Patrick Ems, was born 1980 in Zurich. Twenty years of photographic experience, he has become an award-winning fine art photographer, known for his unique black and whity style.

All his photographs follow a clear line, which could be charaterized as pure, clean and reduced. The focus fully lies on content and the resulting impressions and emotions. Like an introduction chapter, his images open a scenery to the viewer’s imagination, leading them through an atmosphere of various thoughts and feelings. At this point the image itself becomes an entry point to a virtual journey.

While as a photographer he strengthened his skills and widened the possibilities of visual expression, he got honoured on multiple international photo award contests, including the title of best Swiss photographer at the Sony World Photography Awards in the year 2014. Influenced and impressed by visual arts, martial arts and philosophy, it has become an integral part of his life to express himself through images and to make a statement in this fast moving superficial world. His photographs shall decelerate his viewer and open a moment of contemplation. The following project called „Clarity“ was shot during winter 2016 troughout Switzerland. This photographic extract is characterized by purity and simplification using a high-key minimalism style. Fascinated by winter, no other season enrobes nature’s counter face in such a subtle and tender way giving the observer an unknown almost mythical access to the world. [Official Website]

The missing forest by Patricia Ackerman

The missing forest It is not the forest of milk of Dylan Thomas nor the mysterious jungle of Emilio Salgari. It is – just and nothing less – a handful of twigs that the time dried and the eye finished to dissect and isolate, until they float in black chamber, turning them into ideograms of an underground pondering.

For years I photographed only in black and white. Good black and white photography usually has an edge in term of depth and presence, but selectively applied colors contribute very much to the emotions.

The passion for photography was born by traveling, for the need to freeze an emotion, to fix it forever and to have the chance to revive it, then matured also in an emotional quest for the daily life, but the journey gives me the opportunity to tell and remember the places through always unknown emotions,
