Photographic language; Magic realism by Saul Landell

Should I take an image in a world that I see or in a world that I understand?... Images of a real or a posible world?...

Should I take an image in a world that I see or in a world that I understand?… Images of a real or a posible world?...

Those are the questions that I do myself when I try to translate personal concepts into photographic language. I disturb the evident reality because I don’t want to deceive the senses, no. I want to catch concepts more than moments, showing the human being’s fragility like as a wound, not to suffer if in case, to understand myself.

I find so irresistible the abstraction ability for storytelling; incredible tales so impossible but totally in its surrealism own or its a kind of magic realism than the savage urbanism style and their aseptic and clear spaces. I feed on the genius artistic works such as Andrei Tarkovsky’s movies, Juan Rulfo’s literature, René Magritte’s plastic arts or Misha Gordin, Dominic Rouse, Les Krims, Deborah Turbeville’s photography.

My approach to photography was happened four years ago, in 2008; I didn’t have any knowledge about it even edition. My photography arises –more than anything, really- from my intentions and personal desires than of photography tecniques or technology. I could say that is an handicraft work without biggest pretentious that captures (and expresses) my own nightmares and silences. My photographic work doesn’t give answers… in case, it wants to make more and more questions always.
