People of India by Jean-Pierre Duvergé

I come back from a journey in South India. It is not the landscapes which affected me, nevertheless they are my favorite subjects. What most affected me, moved, they are Indians themselves.

Jean-Pierre DuvergĂ© – I come back from a journey in South India. It is not the landscapes which affected me, nevertheless they are my favorite subjects. What most affected me, moved, they are Indians themselves.

Here are some people of India of today.Taken very close to the subject, the photo creates an intimate link with the subject. And in fact, it is him who makes the photo.

The photographer gives way by pressing on the trigger. He makes way for the face which looks at him. At this moment, the miracle occurs, the subject shows itself in all its nudity. Sometimes  very proud, charming, humble or vain, the human race in all its magnificence. The human race of whom the photographer is a member. I am not the one which takes, I am the one who receives communition  with the other one. Through the face, I measure all its greatness and my small size.

We are on the same wavelength.
