From June 7 to 22, 2025, New York City will host the 14th edition of Photoville, a free outdoor photography festival that transforms parks and public spaces into a vast, open-air gallery.

It all begins with the Opening Weekend on June 7 and 8 at Brooklyn Bridge Park, where visitors can explore a lively Photo Village built from repurposed shipping containers, enjoy artist-led tours, attend workshops, and take part in family-friendly activities.

A Citywide Celebration

This year, over 80 exhibitions will be installed across the five boroughs—Brooklyn, Manhattan, Queens, The Bronx, and Staten Island—bringing photography directly into the everyday life of the city. The festival is known for its inclusive, community-driven approach and its focus on storytelling through diverse and underrepresented voices.

Notable Exhibitions in 2025

  • Heritage in Focus: A cross-continental exhibition exploring how communities preserve identity, memory, and place.

  • Hollowed Out: A documentary series on the environmental and social impacts of gas extraction in Appalachia.

  • Migration and Movement: A photographic reflection on displacement, identity, and adaptation through personal narratives.

  • Jamel Shabazz Retrospective: A tribute to Brooklyn’s visual history, focusing on the golden age of Hip-Hop and urban culture in the 1980s.

Events and Workshops

Photoville also offers an engaging schedule of talks, workshops, and hands-on experiences:

  • Artist Talks & Panels: Daily conversations with photographers exploring issues like justice, identity, and representation.

  • Creative Workshops: Including cyanotype printing with medicinal plants, tintype portraits, and DIY zine-making.

  • Portfolio Reviews: One-on-one sessions with photography professionals for feedback and career development.
