Inside (An)Organic: Boris Benko’s Conceptual Take on Human Isolation

In a world obsessed with movement, progress, and hyper-connectivity, (An)Organic presents a visual meditation on stillnesswhether embraced or inevitable. This ongoing fine art photography series explores the alienation of ordinary individuals through artificial figuressynth etic forms of silicone, porcelain, and other materials while subtle surreal elements shape a hypnotic yet unsettling atmosphere.

These beings exist in carefully staged, minimalist compositions, juxtaposed with organic elements and everyday objects. Each image blurs the boundary between the organic and the inorganic, mirroring the paradox of modern existence. These figures represent individuals who willingly retreat into their inner worlds, drawn to the safety of their own bubbles while secretly yearning for the vibrancy of the external world.

Despite their isolation, these beings are burdened by the expectations of modern ideals. They are like aliens in hibernation, cocooned in their self-created sanctuaries unwilling to break free, yet haunted by the possibility of something more. (An)Organic is not just a study of artificiality or alienation it reflects the modern human condition, caught in the pull of stillness and an unshakable urge to awaken. This series examines the contemporary tendency to withdraw into self-contained worlds where people long for more, yet settle for less, trapped in a cycle of comfort, detachment, and resignation.

About Boris Benko

Boris Benko (b. 1976, Croatia) is a visual artist and photographer with a background in graphic design and nearly 25 years of professional experience as a designer and illustrator. Photography, which he began pursuing seriously only in recent years, has naturally evolved from his involvement in various visual art projects, allowing him to expand his creative expression into the realm of fine art photography. His work is concept-driven, with a focus on storytelling and uncovering the deeper, layered meanings of the modern human experience. Often incorporating subtle surrealist elements, his photography draws inspiration from dark, minimalist art and explores themes of isolation, alienation, and the complex struggles that shape contemporary existence. Specializing in fine art photography, Benko develops carefully planned concepts and projects, frequently blending artificial beings and real human models. His work often involves studio photography and the creation of photo composites, using both organic and inorganic elements to build immersive, surreal visual narratives.

Through his images, he aims to challenge perception, evoke emotion, and craft narratives that inspire detachment and introspection. His work has gained international recognition and has been featured on various online platforms and in publications. His photograph Tangled in Red recently won a Platinum Award at the MUSE Photography Awards 2025 in the Fine Art Photography – Photomanipulation category (link). He continues to develop his conceptual fine art photography practice, maintaining a strong creative focus on this medium. [Official Website]
