Tom Chambers has created seven series of photomontages, which focus on the preservation of the environment and culture.

Having grown up in rural southeastern Pennsylvania, the commitment to protecting the environment has always been a commitment. Not far from the family farm, the prolific Wyeth family of artists lived in Chadds Ford where they created exquisite art over generations. Tom was particularly influenced by the painter Andrew Wyeth, whose stunning landscapes are filled with emotion. Other inspirations for photomontage come from a variety of sources, including music, literature, travel, other artists, or dreams.

Tom completed a B.F.A. in 1985 from Ringling School of Art, Sarasota, Florida with an emphasis in graphic design and strong interest in photography. For many years Tom has excelled as a graphic designer, including the design of flat printed material, packaging, and magazines. Since 1998 Tom has devoted himself to photomontage for sharing the intriguing unspoken stories, all of which reflect his worldview and elicit a range of feelings in the viewer.

Currently, Tom is represented by four galleries in the USA, including Chase Gallery, Boston; Gilman Contemporary Gallery, Sun Valley; Modernbook Gallery, San Francisco; and Photo-eye Gallery, Santa Fe, in addition to Bo.Lee Gallery, London. Tom’s work has been shown nationally and internationally through seventeen solo and more than fifty group exhibitions. Recently, Tom’s work has been featured in print publications, such as the Huffington Post, Slate, Silvershotz, Color, Zoom, Photograph Magazine, Oxford American, and Photo+, as well as online publications, including PDN, South x Southeast, VASA Project, Lenscratch, Musetouch. Plates to Pixels, Zone Zero, and others. [Official Website]

Over the years Tom has received recognition for his photography through fellowships from the Virginia Museum of Fine Arts and the Virginia Commission for the Arts. Tom’s photography is held in the collections of the National Museum of Photography, Bogotá; Santa Barbara Art Museum, Santa Barbara, CA; California Sate Polytechnic University “Channing Glissen Collection”; the Royal Caribbean Cruise Lines; City of Jacksonville “Art in Public Places”, and Museum of Realist Art, Boston. Highlights from Tom’s first five series were published in his book Entropic Kingdom (Modernbook Editions, 2012).
