Life is a journey; On the Road by Fang Tong

Life is a journey. People always look around while they are on the road. The scenery sometimes is confusing.  People may have the feeling that there is no end in sight. Then, looking through the scenery to seek answers, it becomes possible to feel each detail of the journey’s every drop of joy, anger, sorrow – even becoming a trance.

It seems to be a journey with no beginning and no end. To find the quiet corner of your heart, you must separate the bustling noise, and the comings and goings of people who have nothing to do with you. Everyone in this game of life must journey through the clutter to find their reflection.

There are ten photos in this series. The scenes were shot in a roadside motel in North America, not a fancy space; just a quiet small room. There seems to be a tiny indifferent between the two, but also quietly enjoying each other’s company. Perhaps they will have their own next exit. Life is a journey; it will complete itself finally.

About Fang Tong

My name is Fang Tong. I am a Chinese-born Canadian. Currently I am living in Vancouver BC. Throughout my career, I have explored many aspects of traditional visual media – specifically oil painting, sculpture, installation art and digital media such as 2D and 3D design, and this has brought me great satisfaction. Gradually, I became intrigued with photography. Through the lens, it opens up a great world where I feel so much passion.

I love my work to border on the surreal yet hold back enough to keep it firmly in the real world. My photos provoke audiences into creating a narrative out of cinematic pictures. Maybe there is no clearly defined story behind the scene, but there is a strong mood and atmosphere throughout the whole image. The imaginary world is strangely familiar while the narrative arc takes audiences on a hyper-visual ride through people’s subconsciousness. I love this balance between the real and the surreal that pulls my audiences into my world. [Official Website]
